This camp is designed to not only teach science, but to provide students the opportunity to DO science. We will explore different science topics throughout the week, each day filled with exciting demonstrations and hands on experiments that will help students better understand the science behind how the world works. We will discover how to make ice cream, what makes a light stick glow, and why a roller coaster doesn’t fall in the middle of a loop. Students will also have the opportunity to take home several great demonstrations.
About the
Director: For the past eight years, Jake Palumbo has taught science to students
of all ages. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University
of Richmond. He currently teaches Chemistry at the AACS Upper School, and has
also taught Biology, Physics, and Physical Science.

¡Bienvenidos a una semana de aprendizaje y diversión! During your Spanish immersion week, you will take part in morning classes learning about the culture, history and current events in Spanish-speaking countries around the world. Afternoons include cultural excursions to restaurants, parks and museums where you can experience Hispanic culture in your own back yard, all in Spanish! Participants must have completed at least 2 years of high school Spanish.
About the Director: Chelsea Woody is a Maryland state-certified Spanish teacher at the AACS Upper School. She has spent time living and studying in Argentina, Mexico and Spain and holds an M.A. in international communications. She has been teaching Spanish on and off for 14 years and is passionate about making learning fun.

Based on the best-selling book by Sean Covey, the Introduction to The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, this workshop helps students practically apply personal leadership principles to the tough choices they face every day. Utilizing relevant interactive exercises, plus humor and videos, students will laugh while they learn how to gain greater control of their lives, build relationships high in trust and increase self confidence and interpersonal skills.
Mrs. Blattenberger is an experienced teacher who has worked in a variety of educational roles. She has been a classroom teacher and a principal, working with students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Currently she works at the Annapolis Area Christian School, Upper School campus, as a member of the Educational Support team. She is certified as an Educational Therapist from the National Institute of Learning Development and as a curriculum instructor by Franklin Covey to present the 7 Habits for Effective Teens curriculum.

This is an intensive, focused review of the math and verbal sections of the SAT, as well as a condensed review of the writing section, designed to help students maximize their scores. Two SAT/PSAT tests will be given – one at the beginning and one at the end of the course so that progress may be measured.
Program Note: The SAT Test will be administered on the first day and seventh day of class, where sessions will be 4 hours in length, from 8:00am – 12:00pm.

Eric Nebbia holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Swarthmore College and a Masters Degree from the University of Notre Dame. He currently teaches high school English at Annapolis Area Christian School. Mr. Nebbia has been teaching and tutoring high school students on the new SAT since the spring of 2006.

PRINCESS BALLERINA: PINK ME UP PRINCESS ADVENTURE

Everybody knows that a princess’ favorite color is PINK. Come join in the fun at our Pink Me Up Princess Adventure! Campers will twirl into beautiful ballerina princesses with arts ‘n crafts, enchanting ballet stories, dress-up, ballerina rehearsals, and so much more. We’ll explore all of our favorite princesses throughout the week!
About the Director: Melissa Hathway began dancing at age 3 and has been passionate about it ever since. After performing professionally for the West End Dinner Theater in Alexandria, King's Dominion Paramount Productions, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Melissa's dance skills and work ethic earned her a role in the Broadway Company of CATS for two years. She has since focused on early childhood creative movement and motor development and turned her creative energy, talent, skills, love for the arts and working with children toward the opening of her own dance, music and art studio, Arts 'n Motion.

Designed
to give percussion students of any ability level the resources to become
well-rounded percussionists, this camp will cover a wide variety of styles and
techniques on several different instruments with special emphasis on solid
fundamentals. Topics will include snare drum, drum set, mallet
percussion, marching percussion, hand percussion, all-state audition
preparation and more. Students will perform in a percussion ensemble and
participate in a variety of master classes with experienced faculty. The
camp will conclude with a performance open to the public.
Mike Ranelli is a professional percussionist and drummer who performs with the
National Symphony Orchestra, the Washington National Opera, the Annapolis
Symphony, the Olney Theatre and numerous other professional ensembles. He
has performed and taught professionally for over 20 years and is a graduate of
the renowned Eastman School of Music. Mike is also the percussion
specialist for the AACS marching and concert percussion programs.
Please register as early as possible so that we can plan for necessary staff,
equipment and materials.

Participants will create and complete a painting a day through guided group instruction using real artist materials. Each artist will have an easel with all the necessary tools and supplies (paint, brushes, palettes, etc.) to work with daily and, by the end of the week, they will have a collection of work to begin their own personal art galleries at home! All abilities and experience levels are welcome and elements of art and principles of visual design will be touched upon throughout the course of the studio experience.
Andrea Ream Ellwood has carried the idea for Make and Take Masterpieces around with her for almost half a decade now. If you ask her, she will tell you that ART and making art are the single most important things in the world that anyone could ever do with their time or energy! She herself devotes as much time as she can immersed in the visual arts in her endeavors as a professional photographer, high school art education teacher, and as a working fine artist. Make and Take Masterpieces is a manifestation of her mission and divine calling in life which is "to make ART something that anyone, at any age, can know, enjoy and love."

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE

Join us for this creative dance camp that is
designed to introduce participants to all types of dance genres including, but
not limited to, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, ballet and lyrical. In a
relaxed and fun atmosphere, you will learn dance basics, refine your muscle
conditioning, and be encouraged to create your own choreography. We will spare some down time, through
age-appropriate videos and movies, to discuss how dance legends, performers and
choreographers have influenced the art of dance for today's dancers.
Wondering if dancing is for you? This camp is tailored to meet the
dynamic dance interests of beginners as well as the more seasoned intermediate
dancers. Give it a try- it's not national television, just dancing fun!
Wyndee McGovern is the Artistic Director and Owner of Spotlight Studio of Dance in Millersville, MD overseeing a complete program of Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical & Hip-Hop for dancers ages 2 to 18. She is a Master Instructor certified by Dance Masters of America in 1995 and is currently a member of The Dance Teachers Association of Virginia, Chapter 45.
THE ART OF NEEDLE AND THREAD: SEWING CAMP

Level 2: A basic knowledge of sewing is helpful but not required. Learn how to use a sewing machine as well as basic sewing skills such as pinning, cutting, and following a pattern.
Level 3: Basic knowledge of sewing is required. Campers from level 2 are welcome. We will build on basic machine knowledge to learn how to sew independently from a pattern.
About the Director: Loris Nebbia, a lifetime sewer, teacher, home economic club leader, and founder of Eight Hands Around Creativity Guild, leads an experienced team of instructors including Andrea Nebbia, Valerie Nebbia, and Jen Palumbo to help teach basic sewing skills.
